Writing is ultimately about re-writing, writing drafts fast and then writing even better drafts, and being a good editor when it is time to take a more critical look at your work and "to kill your darlings" as calls it. But anyone who is dealing with writing thousands and thousands of words that are at some point supposed to make a coherent whole, are likely to encounter blocks along the way that will just end up feeling overwhelmed. Opmerkingen: Getting a software of this level for writing an essay or a blog post is an overkill. Perhaps the newest version makes it easier, but for now I am happy with the Scrivener I use. Also, learning how to operate images in the program can be a challenge. However, once learned, it is extremely helpful. It is not as 'easy' to learn as portrayed. The option to compile and export work into other file types was unexpected and welcome. The availability of notes on resources and story elements in the same place is incredibly helpful. Great for organizing thoughts and be able to 'see' how a story is progressing. To be fair, I am still using an 'older' version. Not to mention having the word count tool is invaluable in my opinion for helping weed out excess. Though normally a pantser in writing, I really enjoy being able to navigate the text in the Scrivener folders and files rather than scrolling through pages on a word processor. I ended up purchasing a membership to the site for further information, but that is turning out to be a good purchase as well. I attended the free Scrivener sessions, and those helped to navigate the program. Opmerkingen: Absolutely worth the purchase! I admit, it frustrated me at first but I kept with it. Settings configuration and interface are very unintuitive. Indexing and contents pages with page numbers is a process that gives me nightmares. Compiling process is complex and, as yet, I've not mastered it. Windows version works OK, but there's no Android version. Seems to be designed primarily for Mac users. I've used it for two books of 80,000 words. I've tried many other authoring programs and LibreOffice and Word, and find Scrivener suits my requirements best. Good backup features, saving as draft to DropBox for use on Android and auto-syncing back to PC. Good for keeping research, notes, images with the manuscript. ![]() Broad adoption in many countries and active support community. While I congratulate the designers, I admit to not liking Scrivener - but it is the best of the bunch.Įxcellent user manual. ![]() Basic writing, scene organisation, editing are all 10/10 fine, but for anything below the surface, users can expect an arduous learning curve. Opmerkingen: My impression is that most software for authors is designed by IT people with insufficient collaboration with authors. ![]()
